AUSTRIA AND THE SONGCONTEST

Saturday, 5 March 1966. Austria's musical heart beats much faster for a few minutes. For the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, a German-language song wins. The winner's name is: Udo Jürgens.
"Austria's fateful days. Udo Jürgens' Song Contest Victory" accompanies the young Carinthian bar musician from his beginnings in the cafés of the Allies to the top of the music industry. Companions, industry colleagues and other Austrian song contest participants share their experiences in this 45-minute TV documentary. In the process, Austria's chequered relationship with the European song contest is also illuminated, which found another high point in 2014 with Conchita Wurst's victory.
